I have just downloaded the instruction file for the new Topik exam from the official Topik website

I’m very surprised to see that they have changed the OMR pen used for the Topik. In fact, they have changed the OMR pen since the 34th topik exam. The old OMR pen used for the topik is the pen with the thick and big nib as you can see in the photo. You will be provided this OMR pen to mark the answer sheets. However, the OMR pen with the thick nib will slow down the speed of writing, so I only used the OMR pen to mark for the multiple-choice questions and used the ballpoint pen for the essay. However, I heard that if we used ballpoint pens or pencils in the Topik exam, we would get minus marks in the essay.
But now , the new OMR pen has two nibs which are the thick one and the fine one. As you can see from the photo, the thick nib is used for the multiple-choice questions while the fine nib is used for the writing parts. I am really satisfied with this new change. Thanks for the new OMR pen, we can mark the answers and write Korean essays easier.
I didn’t know there was such a pen. Where on earth can I get that? I will check 문방구. Thank you for posting it. I don’t know when I will take TOPIK. If I take it now, I’m sure I won’t pass advanced level, but fail and get intermediate doesn’t sound so bad. But I don’t know. We’ll see.

You will be given an OMR pen for free during the Topik exam. ^^ I’m not sure if I can pass the Advanced Level or not, but I may still take the exam to evaluate my Korean skills so that I can know my strength and weakness.

I took the TOPIK I today for the first time and had no idea they wouldn’t allow pens or pencils… I was confused until they brought out those pens, and kind of scared I would bubble an answer wrong and have to white it out, but it saved SO much time, and I love that it says TOPIK on it, and that we were allowed to take them home. I’ll definitely look forward to the next time I take the TOPIK haha… I feel like that pen is my consolation prize.

Dear Monica, thank you for your comment. I like the new OMR pen because it is more convenient, but actually I would prefer the pencils to erase the mistakes more easily. There are only two correction pens for the whole room, so I think we should bring our own correction pen for convenience.

Can I buy the pen not going to the exam? Is there any shop where I can get it or something similar?

Dear Jul, you can only get this pen when you take the topik exam. If you want to get the similar one, you can go to the stationery store.
