Kimchi Kimchi restaurant is near my university. I heard that there were many delicious Korean dishes there. Therefore, after class today, I and my friends decided to go there. We ordered a set of kimbap, tteokbokki and spicy cold noodles. Then we ordered seafood soup and california rolls. They are all so delicious. I really like the black style here.
KOREAN LANTERNS (청사초롱 )
My first impression is that the decoration of this restaurant is really Korean style. I am curious about this lantern hung in the restaurant. Hence I searched google and found out it is “청사초롱 “
“The lantern is covered by red and blue color of the silk shades with hanging candle inside it. The lantern’s blue and red silk shade symbolized wedded bliss, the blue standing for yin, the female principle, and the red standing for yang, the male principle. It was used by public officials to light their way when they went out at night. It means that the lantern adds light in the dark and acts as a guide to the right path , brighter future, hope, respect; it further symbolizes a host’s thoughtfulness in warm welcome guests. It is also used at the wedding ceremonies. A young bridegroom would carry 청사초롱 as the he rode a horse to his bride’s home for the wedding ceremony.”
BANCHAN (SIDE DISH)
The banchan consisting of Kimchi and vegetables looks very cute in the little dishes. The fermented Kimchi tastes spicy and very sour. The veggetables dipped in Gochujang sauce are extremely spicy and delicious. I also love the cute green pot.
The tteokbokki of this restaurant is chewy and slightly sweet. I love the way the fried Korean rice cakes are dipped in the Gochujang sauce. The cylinder-shaped white rice cakes together with the red chili pepper paste create a beautiful combination of color. However, it would be better if the rice cakes were fried with boiled eggs.
BIBIMGUKSU (비빔국수) KOREAN SPICY COLD NOODLES
The spicy cold noodles are so delicious with sauce. I think the special feature of this dish is the spicy Gochujang sauce. The long thin noodles mix well with the hot spicy sauce. Some sesame seeds are sprinkled over the noodles. The little egg adds more flavour to the dish and makes it not boring. A slight touch of sesame oil helps enhance the richness of the noodles’ flavour.
The kimbap here is normal, but still delicious enough to enjoy. The sliced eggs, cucumbers, pickled vegetable and sausages mix well together. The kimbap is rolled tight and the rice is soft. It is so delicious to dip the kimbap into the soy sauce. I wonder why they even put the “tail” of the kimbap rolls on the dish.
This is the first time I have tried California rolls. They look like kimbap but they are made inside-out. The layer of rice is rolled outside and sprinkled with some salmon roe, which creates a beautiful textutre. The filling is sliced cucumber, crab and avocado. The mayonnaise together with the ketchup is the perfect combination that gives the California rolls the soft, fatty and delicious taste.
SEAFOOD HOT POT
We eat too many dishes, and now comes the seafood hot pot. The hot pot looks attractive and delicious. I love hearing the sizzling sound and gazing at the red color of the boiled broth. The ramen tastes normal, but the seafood are fresh and delicious. The hot broth is extremely spicy and flavoured with fresh shellfish and shrimps.
